almost time to move

This week has gone quick. I guess that's good because it's another week
closer to our new apartment. Sven gets back tonight from Copenhagen,
sounds like things went well. I've been sudying a lot this week (maybe
not a lot but studying). My test is on Saturday afternoon. After which
my class is going to the bars :) Nothing much planned for Sunday, maybe
we'll help Måns and Annica work on their house.

Oh, forgot about this funny story. So earlier this week Sven and I are at
the store and I'm getting fruit and I look up and see 'Gravenstein' above
some apples. And sure enough they are grav apples. So I'm so excited and
tell Sven how I can't believe they have grav apples, since in CO and VA
and PA they weren't there. And Sven says "Did you think they were only
grown in Sebastopol?" .... "Well, kinda :)" He laughed alot, but I'm so
excited. So I'm going to go eat my 'Swedish Gravenstein Apple' right now
as a snack, and maybe make a pie this weekend!!

Container ... All good

Just wanted to let you know that we opened the container today and unloaded our stuff into a warehouse. All was good. There were a few minor things that we saw, like the car rubbed against the front of the container (long story) but with the license plate on you won't be able to see a thing. And the couch rubbed a bit, but I'm sure no one would notice but me :)

But really it was great, nothing was wet and everything was basically in the same place we left it. Sven did a great job with customs and arranging the storage and everything. So now we have 3 weeks and we can do the final move from the warehouse to our apartment!!!!

apartment

Good Morning! We're going to bid on this apartment ... we think :) You
can check out the deals at this link below.

http://www.hemnet.se/a.asp?id=2819311&q=1&s=4

It's the apartment on the second floor with the four windows to the right
of the bulding. You can see pictures by clicking on 'Visa fler bilder' on
that page.

We looked at it yesterday and it was great. A bit smaller then what we
had before but it should work great. There's a storage unit as well. The
only thing missing is a washer/dryer (in the basement) ... but I guess you
can't get everything. That and it doesn't have a lot of direct sunlight
but it does get some morning sun and a bit in the afternoon. But the
windows are so big it's pretty light. It's located about 5 min walk from
my school and close to a tram stop for Sven, then a 5 min ride, or he
could ride his bike. But then again, he will probably be at client site
most of the time and who knows where that might be.

But we don't know if we will get it or not. Not even sure yet if other
people are bidding at this point. The realtor said yesterday that she's
going to do bidding on monday so we will just have to wait and see ....

new job

So Sven accepted an offer from CapGemini this morning. There were a lot
of things that went into the decision, and while either company would have
worked, in order for us to buy a place to live and be able to live off of
one income, going with Cap was the best choice. So he starts on Monday!
The position is very similar to what he did at AMS, technical architecture
for a consulting company.

We are very happy, relieved, and excited his job worked out great. And
now we can actually look at apartments. The contianer is also now being
done next Wed not this Fri because of customs etc. We're getting closer
to actually finishing our move. Only a couple more things to go :)

love open wireless

Just thought I would send an email since we found an open wireless network at a coffee house. It's been a good week so far. Sven got an offer from the small consulting firm he's been interviewing with forever on Mon and he's going to get an offer this afternoon from CapGemini. So he gets to decide by tomorrow! Then we get to start really looking at apartments and trying to find something we like and buy it. Fun fun.

On my front, classes are great and I'm studying at lot. The topics are really interesting so I don't really mind.

so many things in gothenburg

Yesterday we explored the Göteborg boat, I left a message for dad at work, it was a lot of fun. I’ll send pictures whenever I get near a high speed connection. This weekend we are staying here in Göteborg at Måns and Annika’s house. It’s supposed to be in the 70s today with no rain so we are going to take a picnic lunch down to the ocean and sit and read our books and go for a swim. Tomorrow we plan on going sailing for the day with Anders and Jenny. FUN!

In other news. Sven was working on the house here on Wed evening and stepped down and twisted his foot. So he wasn’t really able to walk the rest of Wed and just a little on Thurs. It seems better now but it’s really black and blue.

Our container arrives on Friday next week. Sven a meeting with customs in the morning, then we are having our container driven to this warehouse where they will put it on the ground. We can then drive the car out and unpack everything in the container into these smaller wooden containers that we can store our stuff in, in that warehouse until we get an apartment. It’s pretty cheap and easy to do it that way. Plus we can do it all inside so we don’t have to worry about rain or anything. I think Sven is just excited about getting his bikes out ... Oh and we both want to grab more jackets and sweaters, it’s been pretty darn cold and wet here so far.

School has been great. Within this module, called International Business Environment Analysis I’ve had two different course so far, one on Trade and Globalization and the other on Global Shift. It’s all very very interesting and I’m really enjoying the classes. I have three weeks until my first exam and I have a lot of reading to do, but my books haven’t arrived yet ... bit annoying but they should be here Mon.

I’m ready a book right now that was suggested by a professor who gave us a lecture during Freshman week about cultural differences. It’s actually pretty good, although a bit hard to read because of the translation. It’s called ‘The Long Ships’ by Frans Bengtsson. It’s about the vikings and has a lot of Scandinavian history in it. If you’re looking for something to read this might be a good one.
